BTS From sketch to finish

A Desert Lost follows the strange tale of a girl raised in the desert - socially inept and heavily reliant on her father, our protagonist, Lia, struggles to feel like a real human being. Having little to nothing in common with the faces she sees on TV or online, her world is tethered to the abandoned military base she was raised on out in Arizona.

Now, 22 years old and missing out on the life of a young woman, Lia has decided to leave the base; leave Arizona, and leave her father - but this decision isn't as easy as she plays it off. Diving into the confusing divide between wanting a new life, but also wanting things to never change, we see Lia's struggle to come to terms with her own worries. Does she fear becoming like her father, a social recluse who's paranoia has driven him away from human contact, or does she fear the extroverted social world - where every step you take is watched by a thousand eyes.

This story not only explores Lia's own thought process, of someone on the verge of making a big change in their life, but also that of dreams, and the cosmic unknown. As both an answer to her prayers, but also her worst fears manifested, two strangers arrive in the desert out of nowhere, before she can make that change. Stalker-ish and a little strange (but not Lia's type of strange), the strangers both intrigue Lia, and seem intrigued by her. Unlike her, they are new to the desert - and a place that Lia has grown to become bored of because of its vast emptiness, has now become a fascination to two others.

Conjoining their lives together, A Desert Lost, uses comedy and contemporary "cosiness", as Lia and the strangers learn from each other to find the boundary between diving into unknown territory, and realising their own limits.
